It's been 11 years since I first tried Bières Jukebox's beer - I tried their American IPA thanks to a friend who was telling me about an up-and-coming brewery out of MTL, and since then they've really taken off. Renaud at Jukebox has become one of my favourite people to visit when in Montreal, passionate about beer and has made some of the most interesting beers I've ever had. He's also involved with Avant-Garde Artisans Brasseurs, check out my photos of my visit to their brewery as they were getting up and running in 2019!
Anywho, I've sampled a lot of Jukebox beers over the years but this is only my third ever review, though I did write a forth but it may have been lost from a computer crash. Today's sampling is Vin d'org Bourbon, a Bourbon barrel partially aged Barley Wine/partially in tanks. This was created for their 10th anniversary. Hopped with Chinook, Centennial and Columbus hops. 9% ABV
Appearance: Murky brown body with a bit of a caramel hue to it. The head is hella thick with a deep, creamy yellow-beige appearance to it.
Aroma: Incredibly boozy, sweet, and even a bit syrupy. I get a lot of notes of raisins, caramel syrup, a moderate amount of oak and Bourbon at the end. Quite a sweet-forward beer. Notes of raisins, fig and a slight soapiness at the end.
Taste: This is 9% ABV but you don't get the booziness right at the beginning, rather there are notes of caramel, dark fruit flavours of raisin/figs, and a moderate bitterness of the end that I'm presuming is from the Bourbon barrel - it's got a bit of woodiness, a bit of booziness.
Overall Thoughts: Boozy, seriously tingles the tongue - this is pretty much what a Barley Wine should be and not just a Double IPA that sat around too long. Oaky, Boozy, lots of caramel.
