Is this the first time I've ever reviewed anything by Good Neighbour Brewing? I think so! I've had this beer in the lineup to review for months now but since work gets in the way... better in the present than never. Today's sampling is their Fruited Hazy IPA, specifically the edition with fresh feijoas, passion fruit, riwaka and Rakau hops. 5.8% ABV
Appearance: Mild dark orange body with a thick off-white/light beige head on top, moderate amount of carbonation and a sprinkling of foam on the glass as the beer gets savoured bit by bit.
Aroma: Ohhh! This is a tropical and sweet-forward IPA! The first thing I get is the notes of passion fruit, quite tropical, sweet and moderately juicy. It has a bit of a fruit punch aroma to it, a bit of a tropical shampoo aroma as well.. quite sweet and tropical so far. Light floral hops in the background.
Taste: This time around, it's not as much of a tropical fruit punch vibe, rather more like a floral feijoa presence at the beginning (as well a slight spiced presence). There's a light to moderate passion fruit sweetness to it, a bit of a floral hop presence, a tad bit of a yeastiness that tingles the tongue a tad and a hint of a Hubba Bubba bubble gum as I pour the last bits into the glass.
Overall Thoughts: Not only on point as a classic Hazy IPA but also crushes it as well. Very smooth, sweet and the floral/tad spiced presence from the feijoa is a really welcome presence that I've very rarely ever seen in a beer. I need another trip to Winnipeg soon to pick up more of their beer as they currently don't distribute to Brandon. They brew their beer over at the always awesome Oxus Brewing so you can see their beer on tap there as well!
