Review: Barn Hammer Monolithic No 3 (Ekuanot)

I reviewed Barn Hammer's initial offering of their Monolithic IPA Single Hopped IPA series back in June, trying out their Simcoe edition. I really like that kind of series of beers so when I saw their 3rd edition in the series, Ekuanot, I had to pick it up. I missed out on #2 so I doubt I'll be trying that at this point but ah well, c'est la vie. 6.3% ABV

Appearance: Deep cloudy orange body with a liberal amount of carbonation in the body and a thick off-white/beige head on top. The head diminishes pretty gradually to leave behind a nice layered lacing on the glass.

Aroma: The first thing I got was wow.. a lot of bitter and citrus hop vibe from this beer. It's quite piney but also has notes of grapefruit, lemon, orange peel. More of a bitter IPA than most I've had in recent memory.

Taste: It's pretty much what I got from the aroma - It's a bitter-forward IPA with a heavy pine presence to it, bit of a dankness to it, notes of grapefruit, lemon and orange peel. While bitter, it's an easy drinker for me, though it certainly won't be for those who aren't hop heads!

Overall Thoughts: Bitter-forward IPA with pine, grapefruit, lemon and orange peel. A tad sweet but not really. Reminiscent of IPAs from the early 2010s.
