Review: Red Racer Street Legal Pilsner (non-alcoholic beer)

My visit
to Central City Brewers + Distillers (AKA Red Racer) last year was the first time I ever ordered a non-alcoholic beer at a venue in my life. Central City's Street Legal de-alcoholized series of beers have become some of the most popular non-alcoholic beer brands in Canada. Currently in the Street Legal series they have an IPA and a Pilsner, and I feel like one of these days we'll be seeing more beers launched over time.

I reviewed their IPA last year and now I'm reviewing their Pilsner, which contains less than 0.5% ABV

From the Nutrition Facts per 500mL can: 90 Calories, 0g Fat, 2g Protein, 0mg Cholesterol, 225mg Potassium, 50mg Calcium, 0.2mg Iron.

Appearance: Clear and golden straw body with a liberal amount of carbonation in the body, while the head is a whole finger worth of off-white foam on top. The head doesn't diminish one bit as it warms up, rather it leaves behind a light lacing on the glass.

Aroma: Crisp, tad grainy, light amount of citrus presence to it, light grassy hop presence, hint of honey. When I first tried this out, it had a bit of an aggressive raw dough presence to it but it diminishes after a few minutes. Smells like a Pilsner to me and not bad so far.

Taste: I get a bit of the raw doughiness again initially (actually, it reminds me of a cheddar bagel for some reason) but it's actually quite a crisp and inoffensive Pilsner. The beer has a light graininess to it, a hint of honey, slight grassy hop presence. It's a tad sweet but not too sweet. Very easy to drink.

Overall Thoughts: I see this beer mentioned on social media a lot when non-alcoholic beer comes up. Very inoffensive Pilsner that's smooth on the palate, crisp and a bit of a grassy hop presence at the end. I'll definitely get this again, it tastes like it could be 5% ABV, but it's not.
