Sorry to Miguel & equipe over at Kilter Brewing, I've wanted to review this beer for several weeks now but my work has been in the way of my hobby! I just can't keep up with reviews lately!
Kilter's Space Jam is a Jammy IPA described as: "A super fruity & jammy IPA, dry hopped with Galaxy and jam-packed with a slam jam of kilterberries."
I'm not sure what kilterberries are, so I assume it's some special rare delicious strain of berries that only exists at the ol' Cloutier family farm.
Appearance: A moderately dark raspberry jam mixed with blackberry kind of appearance, very jammy. Very light head with a pinkish-beige hue to it.
Aroma: The smell so far smells like it should be in a jambuster donut, very fruity. I'm getting notes of raspberry, possibly a bit of strawberry, blackberry or cassis for tartness and a hint of pear at the end. There's a bit of a fruit wine booziness popping out and that's about it. Full on jam in a can!
Taste: This tastes exactly how it smells - raspberries seem to be the dominating flavour in this beer, followed by a bit of a boozy burn that's reminiscent of fruit wine, a hint of pear, a bit of tropical hop presence to give it some more paradise-themed fruitiness to it. There's a bit of a dark fruit tartiness in it.. I can't tell if it's blackberry or cassis but it's reminding me a bit of both.
Overall Thoughts: I have to say that the first time I tried this beer, I wasn't a fan.. I don't know why but I just wasn't. This time around, maybe because Thanksgiving was this week but this jam in a can would've been perfect with turkey (if I ate turkey). It's sweet, a tad boozy at 6.7% ABV, and tastes like this should be spread on toast or turned into an actual jam to be in a jambuster. This also reminds me a bit of some of the fruity coolers I used to really love back when I was uh... young but not overly sugary and more of a natural fruitiness to it. Jeebus Kilter, how do you do it?!
