God freaking damn.. I feel like I'm trying a new beer today when in reality I'm just trying some of the some ol' that I tried a couple years ago.
The folks over at New Belgium Brewing came out with Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA, Voodoo Ranger is light gold in appearance, has strong pine aroma followed by citrus, and grass, some herbal hops, and apparently the tasting profile is sweet, moving quickly to bitterness alongside a pleasing sweetness. Oh, I'll the one to describe what I actually taste in this beer...
Appearance: Cloudy orangish body with a mild amount of carbonation, light amount of off-white head on top.
Aroma: The aroma is sweet, with notes of bubble gum and a bit of lemon citrus. Light amount of bitter pine hop presence, mostly lemon.. but once it warms up I do get a bit of pineapple and orange peel presence popping up.
Taste: Sweet & Tropical! Notes of pineapple, orange, mango, lemon, followed by a presence of lemon, a bit of pine for hoppiness and it's freaking 9% ABV!. The aftertaste is a good amount of bitter, pine presence.
Overall Thoughts: Quite a bit boozey, but not surprising as this is 9% ABV! It's sweet, has tropical fruitiness, and has notes that warm you up. Sweet, tropical, your typical Imperial IPA in the end of the day.
