MaBrasserie's Jack Bière de Garde

When I was in Montreal last month, I met up with my buddy Alain at MaBrasserie for a few pints and to catch up about old times. MaBrasserie had one of the largest taprooms out of any brewery I've been to, I'd say there was room for approximately 100 people.. maybe more, or less.. I have no idea.

Today I'm checking out MaBrasserie's Jack Bière de Garde. Jack tops out at 7.2% ABV.

Appearance: Jack pours a moderately cloudy yet bright lemon yellow body with a very hefty snow white head on top. I waited.. and waited.. and waited until the foam went down so I could pour more beer, the foam is stubborn but once it goes down, it leaves behind a liberal lacing on the glass.

Aroma: The aroma reminds me of Five Alive soda, it's a deep, tropical citrusiness with notes of pineapple, lemon, lime and tangerine - it's quite citrusy and fruity up front. There's a light graininess giving me a bit of a light dough aroma, but that's about it.

Taste: The flavours are quite reminiscent of the aroma - it's a tropical yet mildly bitter fruit sensation - notes of grapefruit, pineapple, lemon and lime and a hint of tangerine peel. Quite juicy and tropical, light toasted malt graininess at the end.

Overall Thoughts: According to Untappd, I've only tried 6 Bière de Gardes in my life and I definitely didn't feel that this was a Bière de Garde. This was over the top citrusy and tropical, nowhere near as caramelly and dry as I expected - this looks more like as if they were doing a New England take on something. The beer tasted amazing but this is definitely not a Bière de Garde.
