My buddy Russ over at N2DS2W.com tagged me in a picture of his Crown Royal BBQ Sauce I discovered several years back. I grew up around Crown Royal, my dad and his farmer friends would sit around the table every Sunday afternoon, sip on Gimli's own Crown Royal or Seagram's Five Star & Coke and talk about farming. I can still remember my first sip of whisky as a toddler, I thought it was iced tea, but obviously, it wasn't, but I was able to handle it easily oddly enough.
I love BBQ sauces and even though this is a beer based blog, I appreciate whisky and I love to BBQ, so I'm sharing you Russ' take on the Crown Royal BBQ sauce. Feel free to tweak it according to your tastes, heck.. use Crown Royal Maple instead of Crown Royal for a slightly sweeter maple finish to it.
Recipe:
1/3 cup Crown Royal
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/3 cup pure maple syrup/honey mixture
1 cup Ketchup
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 teaspoon hot sauce
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Use a mixer/blender to blend the ingredients together in a large container (around 2 litre). Russ uses a submersible hand mixer to mix it together, but use what you have.
Enjoy this on grilled chicken, ribs or just as a dipping sauce. I'm going to try it with steak and pulled pork eventually, and possibly tweak this into making it a pizza sauce.. the possibilities!
