BeerCrank.ca's top 5 posts

I've been running this blog for over two years now, unofficially for 8 - back when I wasn't thinking Molson Kick (anyone remember that?)
about it and reviewing beers like

As of yesterday afternoon, BeerCrank.ca has reached 100,000 visits since I officially started up this site. It's quite a feat to get that many visits in such a short period of time, especially as I never thought people would be interested in reading my views on certain beers, the beer industry itself and even at times - cooking with beer. I tried my absolute best to do a decent attempt at a beer blog, especially while trying to overcome depression and stop drinking so much, and even told by some in the industry that "I don't know anything about the beer industry" because I don't work for a brewery.. but hey.. I just like beer.

I've decided to compile a list of BeerCrank.ca's most popular pieces... ever, for your enjoyment.

  1. Cody reviews Budweiser Shot - This was the reason I started the Skunkworth's Barleyslime column: more people read my reviews on shitty beer than reviews on micros. Why's that? The general population cares more about a new piss-tasting beer coming out by a macro than an India Pale Ale by a local micro, any day of the week. My crankiness shines in the review, and I don't think any other review will ever trump my Budwesier Shot review in popularity. Well hey, I'll try any beer once, including urineful beer like this.
  2. My Top 10 Canadian Beers - People have asked me what my favourite beers were for quite a while, and after finding a top Canadian beer article by AskMen.com, I was outraged by how generic and crappy the list was, so I had to make my own, and since then.. it's become one of the most popular articles on this website.. every day.
  3. Half Pints' Ceinture de la ceinture fléchée - I have no idea how this article got so popular, but it's easily in the top 3. Last year Half Pints released a saison (Farmhouse Ale) as a tribute to Festival du Voyageur, and I was insanely giddy to see it come out being a Francotobain and being a lover of saisons. Check out the review.
  4. Kronenbourg 1664 Blanc review - I'm not really a fan of the Kronenbourg 1664 beer.. France isn't known for their beer for a reason, they're generally pretty skunky and lagery. Kronenbourg released a Blanc witbier and Manitoba was one of the first places in Canada to get it, so others were quickly wanting to what it tasted like. For being a beer from France, it was actually pretty decent, as a witbier.. I prefer Hoegaarden as it has more of an eumph of citrus and coriander. On tap though, it's actually pretty damned tasty.
  5. Rickard's Cardigan Autumn Spiced Lager - Like the Kronenbourg, when it came out, people were trying to find reviews of the beer as soon as possible. BeerCrank.ca exploded in hits immediately after I reviewed the beer. This was the first beer part of Rickard's seasonal line of beers, which turned into a huge joke with their Shandy now out. They now use the Granville Island brand as the Old Rickards it seems. I didn't mind the Spiced Lager, but most beer geeks HATED it.
  6. Natty Daddy Lager review - I just couldn't help but include a 6th and final link. You know on Christmas morning as a child, you see a big present under the tree, you shake it and have no clue what it is, so it makes you even more excited, but it turns out.. it's just clothes disguised in a big box? That's what Natty Daddy was like for me. My parents always bring me back beer from touristy places they visit now. They asked the local liquor store clerk for a really unique and strong beer that most people wouldn't buy. I was thinking of something local, but instead, I got a tall can of Anheuser-Busch's Natty Daddy. Disappointing. Since then, they don't pick out beers unless if it's on a list I give them, or they just get me some tequila, if they're in Mexico.

Hey. I just happened upon your site a few weeks ago.
Really enjoying it. Thanks.
Just wondering if you're thinking of reviewing any Ninkasi or Hopworks beers?

Unfortunately their beers aren't available in my neck of the woods, I've heard of Hopworks and it shouldn't be too hard to get ahold of a beer to review one day, so yes, I will review one of their beers one of these days! Cheers!

Cool. Also there are a few new breweries here in Vancouver.
Parallel 49 is one. http://parallel49brewing.com/ I would imagine you'd be able to get some of their beer.

Another one that is very good, (but as far as I know they only sell from the brewery) is the Powell Street Craft Brewery http://www.powellbeer.com/

Now off for a camping weekend.

I love Parallel 49, but unfortunately only one of their beers is available here in Manitoba, but I have friends who send me some so it's easy to get!

I've heard of Powell but havent really heard much about their beer, it seems pretty new
