Day 18! The closer it gets to Christmas, the lonelier I get, the nights get shorter, and I just don't want to be in Brandon, a city known for not being that welcoming for outsiders like me. Thankfully, there's craft beer to the rescue! Today's beer is a collab between Gigantic Brewing out of the beer paradise of the United States, Portland, Oregon and Three Floyds out of Munster, Indiana, to create the Axes of Evil Pale Ale. I've been told that this is a hoppy pale ale and I should be ashamed for not drinking this sooner but cry me a river.. I've been busy.
Appearance: A rich opaque rust-orange, incredibly vibrant - the more vibrant and hazy the pale, the better it should be in my opinion! Eggshell white minimal head lining the side of the glass.
Aroma: Hoppy perfumey aroma that's spewing out of this glass. It's floral, citrusy and incredibly grapefruit and caramel sweetness that makes my taste buds eager for a sip. There's a slight smidge of a black pepper spiciness in it. More tropical aromas for a pale ale than most I've tried - a bit of peach? as well.
Taste: Hoppy, not even near as sweet as the aroma, but quite enjoyable with a grapefruity citrus to it. Floral hops with a slightly toasty and caramel malt to it, the general flavour is the floral hops, with the grapefruit and barley flavours acting as a backup.
Overall Thoughts: Not quite as sweet or bitter as expected considering the aroma- it is a bitter pale ale, but in a floral sense. Probably past its prime to some but still damned tasty for me. In ways, comparable to some DIPAs in the notes more than some regional varieties of Pale Ales, definitely cheered me up a bit, it's been a long day. 6.0% ABV
