Today's review is Kwak by Brouwerij Bosteels in Belgium. Surprisingly, I've never had this beer before, considering I was sure I've had it. But then I realized, I was thinking of something completely different (possibly Warka Strong. This is a beer my sister got me for Christmas, surprisingly she didn't pick any duds. I was expecting Bud Light Lime and beer in pop bottles.
Kwak is a strong Belgian pale ale with an ABV of 8.4%, and the bottle doesn't say "Premium" anywhere, so this will likely be good.
Appearance: Pours a rich amber red with a bit of a thick creamy head.
Aroma: Strong scent of alcohol, not surprising considering it has a strong ABV. Quite a floral and yeasty aroma. Similar to the usual Belgian strong pale ales, sweet like caramel.
Taste: Yeasty, very sweet and somewhat malty fruitiness in this beer. I can't point my finger to exactly what I'm tasting. Almost like a honey or caramel sort of taste, with some fruit to it, like apples!
Overall Thoughts: Very sweet tasty beer. WILL buy this again. Then again, I am incredibly biased towards Belgian-style beers (pro-Belge). I could see this being an after dinner beer. Sweet, caramelly, yeasty, yum!
