Westmalle Trappist Dubbel Beer

Today was a bit tough on my mentality, feeling sluggish as school's back - but I'm doing absolutely nothing, no job, my education being worthless. I decided I really needed a beer.

I decided on Westmalle Trappist Dubbel. Having a Belgian-French ancestory, I'm always interested to know more about where my ancestors came from. Beer, especially it seems. I absolutely love Belgian beers, which is completely opposite of my entire family. They love their Bud Lights, their Keystones, and their Sparkling Wines (more like alcoholized 7-UP).

Appearance: Simple bottle, but bottle pops up a bit right before it gets to the neck. Pours pretty nicely. Very dark brown colour, with a bit of a copper hue, almost identical to the beer bottle itself. The head is golden brown, the colour reminds me of cinnamon buns.

Aroma: Sweet, malty, fresh baked bread (none of that store bought crap either). Reminiscent of Unibroue's Trois Pistoles, but much fainter.

Taste: Has a bit of a bitter taste to it, a bit complex. Not exactly what I was expecting. A bit sweet as well, but I can't really put my finger (tongue) on it. Not bad.

Value: $3.50 Canadian for a 330mL bottle, 7% ABV. I always love drinking Trappist beers, and wish that the local monastery would do their own beers too, but that's very doubtful.

I don't think the local Trappists even make their own cheese.

My ex's dad did electrician work at the monastery, he told me that they did.
