Brasserie Saint-Sylvestre's 3 Monts, this is one of the first beers from France that I have had in several months. France isn't known for brewing beer, it's all about the wine!
As someone who likes to try as many varieties as possible, I was excited to try this. I had no clue what to expect from Trois Monts, so your guess is as good as mine.
Appearance: Comes in a 750ml brown beer bottle, comes with a cork, and on top of the cork, there's this little piece of metal to make sure the cork doesn't pop off. It's a pain in the ass to get the cork off. To get the metal piece off, turn it clockwise, and it will pop off. As for the cork, this isn't your Unibroue corked bottle. You will need a cork screw, or a device that you use to get corks off. I tried to pry out the cork with my hand, no go. With the metal top? it took chunks of the cork off.
The beer pours a carbonated light golden colour, reminiscent to a light lager. A bit fizzy, but quickly diminishes.
Aroma: At first it reminded me of your generic North American lager, but giving it more of a sniff, it has a very light champagne aroma to it, sweet aroma.
Taste: As I didn't know what to expect, I had no expectations. Sweet, slightly malty, and for some reason - really reminds me of peanuts, really tastes like peanuts to me. Perhaps my senses are off, or thats what it just reminds me of. Slightly acidic on the tongue, slightly bitter, but not bad.
Value: $7 Canadian for a 750mL bottle, it has an ABV of 8.5%. This bière de garde style is interesting, but overall, kind of boring. Reminds me of a lager, but with a hint of champagne, sweet, and French. Would I buy this again? Doubtful. It's good tasting, but just lacks something that makes me want to buy it again and again.

I managed to get my hands on a *clear* bottle of this at my local MLC. I'm waiting for a special occasion to pop it open (along with my bottle of DeuS).
Oh, and this was one of the beers I was going to mention having a bad label. :)
Clear? wow. As for the label, I know there's another beer they have, with the windmills, it's ugly but it's more artistic than many of the beers at the LC, like uh... Bud Light.
My bad. I just rechecked. It's actually a brown bottle.
Haha no problem!
Compared to domestic Canadian beers this is delicious.
