Pop Shoppe branched out to adult versions of their products a number of years ago with vodka-based Cream Soda and Lime Ricky, but being someone who has never enjoyed either flavours, I never bought them. Well, they recently released a Hard Orange Soda and with orange/grape flavours being my absolute favourite drink flavours since I was a kid, I have to check out Pop Shoppe's Hard Orange Soda. The Hard Orange Soda is 7.0% ABV and appears to be made on behalf of the Pop Shoppe by Montreal's Blue Spike Beverages.
Appearance: I don't know why I review normal alcoholic beverages like I review beer, but I just like to keep things consistent. I've drank enough Pop Shoppe Oranges to know this doesn't look like what I expected. It's orangeish but more of a salmon colour in reality compared to the bright orange colour that we're all used to in all orange drinks that's just not normal. Lots of carbonation so it's definitely got some fizz and bubbles jumping up.
Aroma: It's almost an Orange Cream vibe to me than just "Orange". It's definitely quite sweet with a typical faux orange soda vibe to it and a sweetness that I can only really think of as either vanilla or lavender.. not something I was expecting so far.
Taste: Remember back in the day when you'd order a glass of water at a restaurant and it's got an overly chlorine/right out of the dish washer taste to it? It's got that taste as the predominant taste in both out of the glass and also straight out of the can. Once you get past that, you get a hefty sweetness to it with the orange soda taste we all are familiar with. No noticeable booziness to it.
Overall Thoughts: Possibly an off batch. I'm not impressed with this - the vanilla/lavender-esque aroma doesn't pop out in the taste at all, with it having a chemically taste to it instead. I had a can of this around Christmas time and I don't recall experiencing any of that then, so it's possibly a specific batch issue? I have no idea. The canning code appears to be L4A3489
