Review: Uiltje Gele Rakker NEIPA

Uiltje Gele Rakker NEIPAThanks to an always awesome buddy from Netherlands for this beer! I did a big trip to Europe with him a few years ago and while I was mainly looking to drink classic styles of beers, a lot of New England IPAs showed up in my Untappd checkins. He sent me a can of Uiltje Gele Rakker NEIPA. Uiltje's beers really pop out at me for the whole "judging a beer by its label" and Uiltje's artwork is really spot on and even a bit humourous! 6.5% ABV

Appearance: Well, the best before date of this beer was 3 days ago (that's on me) but this looks DEEEEECENT! I was expecting a gusher from the can but it was respectful and poured really well. It has an opaque orange body to it with a very fluffy snow white head on it that diminishes incredibly quickly. There's a sprinkling of bubbles on the glass but no layered lacing until the beer is getting sampled.

Aroma: Tropical. There's a LOT of orange in this brew, there's almost a fruity candy kind of aroma to it, a bit of a "Five Alive" zest to it. Quite sweet and if the taste is anything like the aroma.. this will be a winner.

Taste: It's not anywhere as sweet as the aroma would have you to believe but it's still sweeter and more tropical than a lot of NEIPAs I've had in recent memory. Orange juice is the first thing I get from it, as well as a bit of lemon to it. Hint of grapefruit, light bite from the yeast. This is pretty smooth and held up well for being exactly a year old. A tad sugary but not too much.

Overall Thoughts: This is the 3rd or 4th beer I've ever had from Uiltje Brewing and I've never had a single bad or even "meh" beer. This is a quality product with a great label! I wish I could've shared this with some friends but nobody asked, so the whole can will go down to me belly!
