Review: Trou du Diable - La Pitoune Reckless Beer (Bière qui descendbien)

Review: Trou du Diable - La Pitoune Reckless Beer (Bière qui descend bien) by Cody La Bière
Time for another beer from Shawinigan's favourite brewery, Le Trou du Diable!. This time it's La Pitoune pilsner. Last year Le Trou du Diable was made famous for its Shawinigan Handshake in time for the Memorial Cup, featuring artwork of the Right Honourable Jean Chretien choking Don Cherry.. but at the time the brewery was going through expansion, so the beer was impossible to find, but this time around, their beer is easier to find now that the brewery has been expanded!

Appearance: Pours a cloudy champagne golden ale, Incredibly thick soapy white foam, it's like foam city here, but it's slowly going down.. slowly.

Aroma: Reminds me of Québec, si bonne, has a nice Belgian yeasty aroma with a very thick grassy Barley aroma to it. Sweet apple, a bit soapy, very grainy. I don't know what beer it reminds me of, but I remember drinking beers like this in my hotel room in Quebec. Nice citrus scents.

Taste: A bit of spice hitting the palate, quite a grainy flavour to it, very barley-flavoured, Belgian yeast, hint of lemon, a very summer friendly beer thanks to the citrus & yeastiness, some floral hoppiness giving a bit of a metallic bitterness to the palate. Not bad at all.

Overall Thoughts: A yeasty, thicker-than-normal pilsner, thick thick thick. Easy to drink yet not too light. Not the best I've had from Trou du Diable, but dealing with prairie heat.. this is very drinkable. I just don't know what beer it reminds me of. Reminds me a bit of a saison with less citrus zest. 5.0% ABV. 375mL bottle.

Ingrédients: eau. malt d'orge. houblon. leuvre
